London by Sea

Brighton and Hove brings to mind words such as exciting, enchanting and extraordinary. It is a very unique city with its own quirks and charm, a city much loved in peoples hearts. Everyone has their own unique perception as to what makes Brighton special.

Brighton Pleasure Dome

The city has earned its reputations as the "Pleasure Dome" and "London by the Sea," with its distance from the capital, quirky cosmopolitan vibe and vibrant gay and lesbian scene, that is no surprise. If you love and enjoy life, want to meet interesting people, then come to Brighton and Hove.

Brighton Beach

The beach is busy in Brighton and is backed by victorian houses. At low tide sandbanks appear and provide great fun. Bring a change of clothes as you probably get wet.

Lifeguard cover is provided during the school summer holidays from 10:00 - 18:00 on Brighton beaches. They fly a warning flag when the sea is unsuitable for bathing. The beach is cleaned regularly. Bins are available. Dogs are banned on beaches from May to September. No routine sewage discharge has been identified.

Rottingdean and Saltdean

From Brighton take the A259 towards Newhaven. Bus services 12, 14, 27, 47 and 712 come in from Brighton. The Undercliff walk from Saltdean to Brighton is a nice walk in summer. With a little luck you get soaked by a wave.

In Rottingdean the car parking area just north of the A259 next to the White Horse Hotel which overlooks the beach.

In Saltdean the car parking area just north of the A259. The Whitecliffs Cafe overlooks the beach. Toilets are available halfway up the cliff ramp on Saltdean Beach.

The shingle beaches between rock groynes are quieter than Brighton, backed by high chalk cliffs. At low tide rock pools appear and provide great fun. Bring a change of clothes as you probably get soaking wet.

Lifeguard cover is provided during the school summer holidays from 10:00 - 18:00 on both Saltdean and Rottingdean beaches. They fly a warning flag when the sea is unsuitable for bathing. The beach is cleaned regularly. It is manually picked for litter daily in the summer. Bins are available. Dogs are banned on two of the four beaches from May to September. No routine sewage discharge has been identified.

Brighton Swimming Team

The Brighton Swimming Team practices sea survival swimming on Saltdean Beach. They bring the fun back into Brighton Swimming. Club committees and silly rules are a thing of the past. The Free Lifesaving Society as their team partner provides them free training materials. They then put those training methods into practice on the beach and in the pool.

Events and activities depend on the weather and are quickly arranged via the Internet. Email them for details or follow them on Twitter @brightonswim to keep up with them.
